About Us

The AGDS was founded in 1956 as an umbrella organisation of schools where German is taught as a mother tongue and has, true to its objectives, worked for the preservation and promotion of the German language in Namibia over the past decades.

Timeline of the AGDS

21 October 1956

Founding of the Working Group of the German School Associations of South West Africa

1976

Foundation of the Society for the Promotion of German Schools (FADS)

20 May 1989

Foundation of the German Cultural Council

June 2022

Dissolution of the German Cultural Council and takeover of the projects "Culture Festival" and "Essay Competition" by the AGDS.

Close cooperation with the member associations and new orientation of the AGDS projects
